This brush cleaner is a round polyurethane black sponge in a metal tin. All you do is rub a dry makeup brush in a circular motion on the sponge. This removes the pigment from the brush. The brush cleaner is very effective. It even worked on bright colors and glitters. It was only unsuccessful one time for me. I was not able to completely remove an intense black eyeshadow from a small eyeliner brush. The white brush remained partly black.

The sponge is easy to clean with soap and water. It air dries fairly quickly. You don't want to put the damp sponge in the tin, or it could rust. When you remove the sponge from the tin, you might find some bits of dry makeup in the bottom. This is why is it important to keep the sponge in the tin when you use it. I can use the sponge quite a few times before it gets full of pigment.
